Same time 600 years ago...

This past week I have learned about 2 new things that were happening at the same time, around 1400 a.d./c.e.

The first is a "Pueblo Basketmaker 3 " era village site called The Dillard site, that I had not heard of until this past Labor Day weekend.

The other thing that I learned about came through a volunteer of the Friends of the Dunnellon Public Library bookstore. I had gone into buy maps for collage and National Geographics for my Dad. One of the women working in there handed me this calendar book and introduced me to the brilliantly illustrated manuscripts done by the Limbourg Brothers of France (circa 1400's) for their wealthy patron, Jean , Duc de Berry.

Yes, I find inspiration in the darndest places. Both have inspired mucho creativity to flow on again....

Oh wait, I also learned about another unknown artist, (Thanks Florida PBS) named

Ely's Food Truck, Dunnellon, Florida

Meet George and Ely...

Ely is short for Elizabeth and George is short for Jorge and together they make a wonderful team. Ely , who is originally from Bolivia, makes one of the best tamales I have ever tasted . See photo above.

(As I told her I would say, the best tamales I have ever had will most likely always be the tamales made by Bertha Perez of Pescadero,California, on the coast where I left a huge chunk of my heart, but I digress).

She and George met back in the day in Chicago. George drove a truck all over the Midwest for 30 years. George told me that he was a divorced single Dad and Ely came to be his nanny. The rest seems to be a wonderful history.

As some of you know, I have been on a quest to find good Mexican food since coming back here with my Dad in the fall of 2012. I came to this truck a few times over the past year but didn't get a tamale until last week (see above). They not only sell tacos and tamales but a whole range of Amurican food as well. I still have to try Ely's Empanadas, which she makes on Friday's only.
I am learning that Empanada's are pretty common throughout Central and South America. I hadn't had an empanada that I know of until stumbling upon a Latin Food Restaurant in Pearl Alley (called El Arepazo http://www.elarepazolatingrill.com/ ) in my hometown of Columbus a few years back. Those are still my favorite Empanada's , so I look forward to trying Ely's.

I try to write about new things I find when I can, and for me it is just pure fun to get stories from the folks I meet.
