Columbus Comfest

Comfest is one of the times of the year that when I am here in Columbus and able to go, I fall in love with my hometown. Comfest stands for Community Festival and for nearly 40 years, it is the only time of the year that one can see an abundance of hippies (young and old) as well as all the rest of the alternative anything people here, and for the past several years the rest of Columbus has jumped on the bandwagon too.
Mostly I go because it's yet another free music festival. I usually go all 3 days and I can wander between 4-5 stages and see and hear a pretty good example of the live music scene here in Columbus. If you volunteer , you can get free beer and food tokens as well as the Comfest t-shirt of the year, designed by a local artist just for volunteers. There are no corporate sponsors of Comfest and Comfest was green long before it was groovy-trendy to do/be so. And for the most part, it is a very peaceful gathering.
Comfest is held every year in Goodale Park, which I now believe is the heart and soul of Columbus. It is one of the city's grand arboretums, planted at the turn of the last century.
This year I found what might just be my favorite art car, pictures below. I also saw Superman (!) and alot of the rich fabric that is Columbus, young, old, gay, straight, all of the colors of the rainbow. Starting the morning on Saturday picking up litter and cigarette butts was a really peaceful way to spend some time under the trees. And I now have yet another free Comfest t-shirt for my collection.
