why did the Turtle cross the road.....?

Here on the south banks of the dammed up Withlacoochee River , Turtles crossing the road mark the coming of rain. I still need to do my research about these tortoises but it seems (per my Dad ) that they also choose to cross our road to lay their eggs. Perhaps the two are mutually exclusive but nearly everytime I see one crossing, I try to help it along the way so that the cars speeding by will not run over it. I say nearly because I accidentlly killed one about a month ago and it nearly killed me. My Dad and I were having our usual argument about him just letting me drive without comment ( he called my S.F. Bay area and La Honda hill driving "white knuckle driving") and I came across a curve and normally would have missed it by having the wheels of the truck on both sides , but this time I was driving the low riding toyota. So I created meals for the local turkey vultures for about 3 days. These large turtles are so old, it really does hurt the ecosystem when one of them dies.  So now I just may listen to my old Dad and slow down on the old river road.

When I first came back here to Dunnellon after being away for 2 years I was both astounded and happy to find in this local Woodfired Pizza Joint  with a brick or cob oven like the one I want to build (though on a much smaller scale).  It's not only a really cool local place but run by an amazing young family that I feel lucky to have met.  Find them on facebook. The Pizza Joint Wood Fired Pies.MMMM.
