Thank You Howard Zinn....

"To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory." ~Howard Zinn

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

- Martin Luther King

Found in my old journal box.....

I found this many years ago when I lived in Austin. I have carried it with me through many moves, seemingly many lifetimes .  Although it's paper has faded from it's beautiful lilac color, I love that masking tape scar. I am still trying to check off some of this list.  Fall down 7 times, stand up 8.

One person's trash....another person's treasure.....

I took this picture several years ago in Lancaster, Ohio.  I have always wanted to make one myself as a raised bed.  Today my neighbor was taking a load of tires to the landfill, so I grabbed some to make one out by the road!
