Someone please take a laptop into the
hospital and show her my Oregon pictures please!!!
I just talked with my Mom on the telephone and she has her next attempt at a biopsy tomorrow. I had a good cry and then went on an adrenaline filled bikeride. The miracle of the digital age has these pictures on the net in a matter of minutes. These were in my local meadow right before the sun went down behind the trees. May she have a miracle too.

History and Waterfalls

CCC Stone Kitchen inside stonework"History Days" at Silver Falls State Park this weekend. It was also June Drake's (would have been) 130th Birthday today.
He was the photographer that is largely responsible for helping to preserve this
land that we now know as Oregon's largest state park.
This old camera reminded me of him. He took pictures of Silver Falls and tried to convince the Feds to preseve it as a National Park. Instead FDR sent in the CCC and built some beautiful buildings, trails and the infrastructure of this amazing S.F.State Park.
I was lucky to meet some of June Drake's descendants today and there is a really strong resemblance to my Maternal Grandmother, who has the Drake name in her family tree.
It was a great weekend for me as I love talking history with folks wherever I am.

One of the structures built as a Stone Kitchen by the CCC boys here in the 1930's.

check out the website of The Friends of Silver Falls.
Not only do we have a strong Oregon State Parks volunteer base but we also have this group who was largely responsible for organizing and running this event. Alot of the "Friends" volunteers lead hikes making lots of amazing programming for the Silver Falls park visitors.
