Some of My Watercolors from the Edge
As I didn't get to have my first "Art Opening " at M Coffee in Half Moon Bay , California that was scheduled for this past June, I decided to put some of my paintings online. I really do not have any choice anymore to do anything with my life that does not include my creative muse. If you want to support my art, consider purchasing a print. If you can't afford it, please pass this blog onto someone who might be able to support me. Sliding scale donation welcome. I have hundreds of watercolors and similiar pieces that have been waiting in a big box.
An Eddy
This is a combination leaf print/watercolor/potato print
that I did a few years back while working
as a Naturalist in Indiana. This leaf, of the Tulip Poplar,
is my favorite Ohio tree and also the State Tree of Indiana.
It is not a true poplar, but actually a Magnolia and has beautiful
pale yellow, pale green and orange blossoms every spring.
Eddy from the Middle English (Scots) ydy, probably from Old Norse "itha"1.a: a current of water or air running contrary to the main current;especially : a circular current:2: a contrary or circular current (as thought or policy)

Medicine Wheel
Above is a Medicine Wheel Collage that I did last month on 7/8/9. It shows all the things that I am grateful for this summer here in Ohio. It is laid out directionally and on an Octagon, which is the shape of the Strawbale House I wish to build somewhere when I find the landowner who will allow me to rent- to- own an acre. On the bottom are some of the plants that had come into bloom by then and what a glorious bloom it's been. As I have mentioned before, this garden that I created in my Mom's backyard has saved me in so many ways. Pure therapy and visual bliss/color therapy. I have also eaten alot of tomatoes, zucchini and beets from it! I belong always amongst growing things. The symbol on the top right is one that the folks of Comfest (Columbus Community fest) use but it is actually a 2000 year old symbol of the Adena Hopewell culture that was here in Ohio. It was found on a medallion. They thrived here and left many eARThworks.
On the other side is the symbol of diversity and in the center appex is an ancient Tibetan symbol. I think of this as a way to say Thanks to the universe as well as manifest my dream of building myself a sanctuary. On the left inside of the Octagon is myself, the Buffalo. I am an Ox in the Chinese calender and this is my year. I have always thought of myself as more of a Buffalo than an OX and had a multitude of dreams about Buffalo/Bison for over 20 years.
I put the message below on my very first blog but wanted to put it up again as it feels timely again. Mostly a reminder to myself:
Message from the Hopi Elders:
You have been telling the people that this is the eleventh hour
Now you must go back and tell people that
THIS IS THE HOUR
and that there are things to be considered.
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community
Be good to each other
and do not look outside of yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid
They will try to hold onto the shore;
They will feel they are being torn apart
and they will suffer greatly
know the river has it's destination
The elders say we must let go of the shore
Push off into the middle of the river,
Keep our eyes open and our heads above water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history we are to take nothing personally,
least of all...ourselves!!!
For the moment we do,
our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.
The time of the world is over;
Gather yourselves
Banish the word STRUGGLE from your vocabulary
All that we do now must be done
in a sacred manner-and in celebration!
WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!
