This and the 4 pictures above are from that 1986 copy of
The Shaman's Drum
that I have been carrying around for so many years...
This is one of the 13 year old collages of mine. This one's memory woke me up at 4:00 am this morning. Collage by design can be a copyright nightmare. I was living and working in my hometown of Columbus , Ohio and had just started "Painting with magazines" and other tidbits in my path. The photo in the middle I believe to be from the 1960's in an old
National Geographic Magazine.
N.G.s have always been like gold to me, so I rarely cut them up. This in fact may have been the only time I have done that. This collage scared me for a long time. It and the other pieces of my own art were in yet another folder I have "dug up" through the past 6 years of my being back with my parents. On the bottom right is a very telling picture of what the climate was during and after the starting of THIS war in 2003.
In 2003, Columbus had a strong Somalian refugee population that often butted heads and hearts with the existing strong and established American Black community. I like to think that they somehow have now figured out how to co-exist.
In the bottom right is a Bert's Bees sticker of some sort and I don't think I need to explain further the signifigence of that.
