Great Food and Murals of Mi Ranchita in Ocala , Florida

Look fellow E.E. Naturalists: No Food Waste

This morning I went looking for more of the amazing Empanadas I found ( at BP No. 1 on Route 40 East) on my way to the Ocala Farmers market a few weeks ago.  I was delightfully surprised to have found them in the first place, as I was stopping to get cold water for Molliedawg.
Well, just my luck, they aren't selling them anymore. So I trudged on looking for SOME kind of Mexican food and landed here again at Mi Ranchita.  I was the first one there when they opened so I asked if I could take pictures of the murals.  When I asked Christina the waitress who the artist was, she told me this:  "Years ago a man was just travelling through and said he just needed to make some money to get back to where he was from. No one ever got his name.  He painted the one (above) in just 20 minutes".
I love stories like this. I love everything Mexican and would be very comfortable living with and surrounded by the hardworking, family loving. laughter loving Chicanos/ Latinos the rest of my life.  On Sundays,  Mi Ranchita has a Mariachi Band from 1-3pm.
 Go there y'all.

This morning @ Home and in Yankeetown....

This morning I woke up really early again, (at 4:00 am , as I have been doing for weeks) .  I decided that I wanted to get some seaweed for my compost pile and go to the gulf before the labor day crowds .  Dad likes going out there too, so we got an early start.  The light out there was so very incredible.  And everything was an eery calm, oh so calm.

My good neighbor (Jeff) gave me this plant (below) last year when he was moving stuff around his yard. It is a new plant to me, and like all of last years transplants from friends, it died back, so I thought I had lost it.  But it came back this year with a vengeance. It is The Cardboard Palm Tree, scientific name Zamia furfuracea,   Zamia furfuracea is not real palm but rather a cycad, like Sago Palm.

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed...It feels an impulsion...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”    Richard Bach
