Cedar Keys with Dad and Mollie July 17th, 2014

As the crow flies, Cedar Key is fairly close to where we live in on "The Nature Coast" of Florida.  To drive it takes over an hour to get there, so I haven't been but wanted to go for a few years.  So yesterday we headed out to the coast.
Cedar Key is known to be the location of many burial mounds of the ( Timucuan ) original native people of this area. After the white folks took over, it became a major shipping port for Cedar logs, pencils, turpentine, phosphate and more.  Nowadays, its kinda of a tourist trap, though this is exactly the Florida Kitsch that I crave.
I should have come alone to have more time to walk around more but I will come back at some point. It is fairly close to Manatee Springs, so a great combo to see the two again is in the future.  I was happy, though not surprised to find an arts community out there.

AROUND.....

My new favorite Chicano Artist....

Tomorrow is Independence Day.  I am hoping for Independence from War. All War. Little Wars. Little dirty wars. Big wars. Wars within ourselves and within our families, communities. All wars among the human race. Period.
Peace Now Y'all.

I AM OFFICIALLY NOT DONE WITH MY GRIEF.
GRIEF OVER THE LOSS OF MY LITTLE BROTHER, THE LOSS OF MY MOTHER.

I have been looking at pictures via google images of Haniwa from Japan again.  I first saw one in an art gallery in Eugene, Oregon four years ago, right after my little brother died.   I want to do some more art again using haniwa images. I can't decide between a yard ornament and a collage.
Happy Independence Day!!!
May We All Have Equality !!!
